News / Julian Assange sues his host, the government of Ecuador
The case around Julian Assange starts to sound more and more bizarre. Dubbed the “housemate from hell”, fed up with being essentially held in near-solitary confinement in the Ecuadorian embassy’s broom cupboard, Assange has now stood up to sue the government of Ecuador on charges of violating his human rights.
Since 2012 the WikiLeaks co-founder has been living in the embassy in the UK to avoid being extradited to Sweden where he is accused of sexual assault. After some mysterious incidents, including scuffles and broken furniture, he was cut off his internet access and forced to give over his job as editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks to Kristinn Hrafnsson in late September.
